# Overview

LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is a directory service protocol and is used to create, manage and query directories where users, groups, devices and other data are stored in a centralized database. LDAP is used to provide authentication, authorization and other directory services, especially in large organizations and networks.

<Note>
  Authentication, directory management, authorization, address book service, and centralized identity management are features that enable organizations to use LDAP to organize and strengthen user identities, access rights, and communication data.
